Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga yoga is characterized by a focus on vinyasa, or a dynamic connecting posture, that creates a flow between the more static traditional yoga postures with an emphasis on strength and agility. The whole practice is defined by six specific series of postures, always done in the same order, combined with specific breathing patterns (ujjayi breathing). Working with ujjayi breathing and the energy systems of the body, we create internal, self regulate heat, which helps to purifiy the body of toxins.

Ashtanga yoga often appeals to the person who is fit or desires to become so quickly as it usually involves a challenging physical routine. However, although it has the reputation of being a demanding discipline, each pose can be modified to suit the practitioner's level of skill. And at the studio where function over form is emphasized, we take special care to make sure everyone is practicing in a healthy and supportive way. Ashtanga yoga takes its name from the eight limbs of yoga, which include moral, physical and spiritual practices.
